Meet Heartland Chapter member Lisa Boon, CMP, Event Planning Manager at Retail Confectioners International in Springfield, MO.
My favorite food is: American Comfort Food.
My next dream trip is to: Asia! It’s the last continent on my list to visit. (I’m skipping Antarctica. Bbbrrrr…).
Recently read book I recommend reading is: Love Does by Bob Goff. It’s not a recent read, but it’s a favorite. I want to be more like that in life.
Nickname growing up was: Boo-Boo… self-explanatory.
Won’t eat: Spicy foods.
Movie or bowling? A movie with popcorn.
Start every morning with: Singing along to the Moana and Sing soundtracks with my son, Leo, during the morning commute.
Why I joined the PCMA Heartland Chapter: PCMA offers a fantastic online CMP prep course, which initially is why I became a member. I have continued membership to learn alongside the best and brightest in the industry. I love getting new ideas to bring back to our association events so they don’t become stagnant.
What I like best about my job: I love the team that I work with. We’re a small staff that knows how to have fun and work together. The fact that there is usually chocolate involved is just a bonus.
Three things you’ll find in my wallet that help to describe me: In an effort to be more minimalistic, I bought the smallest purse I could find. It’s just large enough to fit the essentials – my iPhone, ID and credit cards. I love that it’s easy to grab and go – and I do a lot of going.
What I liked best about attending Convening Leaders this year: This year was my first Convening Leaders. In addition to meeting so many amazing event professionals, I really enjoyed seeing how PCMA runs all aspects of their program. For example, I attended a first-time attendee orientation where I was able to meet other newbies (like me!) and tour the event space. I loved this idea, not only to get acquainted with the event layout, but also because I was able to connect with new people before the event officially started.
