Focus On A Member Series: Kristin Malek

This week for our Focus On A Member series, we hear from Kristin Malek, PhD, CMP, CED, DES, CHE.

What was your favorite Netflix binge during 2020?
Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Where is the first place you will travel when the pandemic is over?
Cape Cod to see my family!

What is the best recipe you tried in 2020?
Not very specific – but I have been experimenting a lot with different sauces (especially different sauces for stir fry!).

Personally, or professionally, were there any positive things that came out of the pandemic (i.e. more time with family, house projects, got a dog, curbside pickup)?
More time with my five year old daughter! Making morning cuddles a routine before we start the day!

What did 2020 teach you about your professional life?
Each person handles a crisis differently. Calm leadership with over communication is critical in these times. If a leader is anxious and worried, the entire staff will be as well.

What did 2020 teach you about your personal life?
The importance of self-care and prioritizing time to take care of yourself.

What new hobby have you started in the past year?
Journaling!

I am looking forward to 2021 because…
The return to in-person meetings and events!

I believe (or don’t believe) hybrid events are here to stay because…
Hybrid events allow people to interact with your content the way they want. Maybe someone is not able to travel because of their schedule or have travel restrictions or budgetary restrictions or family obligations. This allows everyone to be involved. Not every event makes sense as hybrid, but many educational-focused events would thrive in this environment!
