Heartland Helping Hands
Program Duration: Jan 1 – Dec 31, 2019
Goal: Encourage and support the giveback efforts for PCMA Heartland Chapter Members and further grow the impact of the chapter in the community.
Community Service: Service that a person performs for the benefit of his or her local community.
Opportunities that Earn Credit:
- Direct community service activities (i.e. tutoring, building homes, visiting elderly)
- Indirect service activities (i.e. fundraisers, community organizing, Relay for Life)
- Community Organizing (i.e. voter registration drives, community gardens)
- Coordination of fundraising activities for nonprofit organizations and services performed for day care centers, retirement homes, animal hospitals, or nature parks
- Community-Engaged Learning Course
- Religious education (i.e. teaching Sunday school or Hebrew School) or volunteering at your place of worship.
- Projects sponsored by student clubs/organizations that provide a service to the local community
- Self-initiated volunteer work
- Meeting hours (only if the meeting was spent planning a community service activity)
- Rehearsal, practice, and participation in performances (dance, theater, and music) if the production is created specifically to address identified community service needs as defined above and if the student and/or organization does not receive substantial financial benefit from the production
- Hours spent coaching youth sports
- Involvement in the service projects of for-profit businesses that address a community service or need
Hours that do not count:
- Hours as chair or committee work or attendance at club meetings, church, etc.
- Time spent training for an event (5K, Marathon, etc)
- Blood donation or other medical needs
- Assisting member of immediate family
- Internship hours

- Activities for paid wages or a stipend
- Observation or practicum hours that are part of a degree requirements and do not include direct community service
- Meeting or class hours, unless the time was spent planning or completing a community service activity
- Political campaigning in support of a particular candidate or political party
- Advocacy, religious, and political activities that are hateful, overtly disrespectful, or discriminatory in nature
- Participation in self-improvement workshops, clinics, conferences, or conventions
- If you receive financial compensation, it is not service

- Any eligible volunteer opportunities from January 1, 2019 to Decemeber 31, 2019 will qualify if documented
- You must be a member in good standing
