Member Spotlight: Meet Luke Wiggins

Meet Heartland Chapter member Luke Wiggins, Meetings & Convention Sales Manager, Visit Rogers, Rogers in Northwest Arkansas.

My favorite holiday is: Thanksgiving hands down. Watching football and eating turkey is an unbeatable combo.

My favorite food is: Without a doubt steak.

My next dream trip is to: I’ve always wanted to go to South America for some reason. Probably first choice of city would be Cartagena.

Recently read book I recommend reading is: Enlightenment Now by Steven Pinker. It is a long one, but a very informative and interesting read.

Nickname growing up was: I moved around quite a bit growing up, so there have been a bunch of different ones. The most common ones were some sort of concoction of my last name like Wigs or Wiggy.

Won’t eat: It’s a weird one since everyone seems to love it so much, but I really don’t like chocolate.

Movie or bowling? Bowling for sure. I fall asleep just about every time I go to a movie. The combination of the comfortable chairs, low lighting, and the A/C is the perfect recipe for paying $15 for a nap.

Start every morning with: Hitting the snooze button. I’m not much of a morning person until I’m well caffeinated.

Why I joined the PCMA Heartland Chapter:  When I started with Visit Rogers they had been involved for a few years, so I joined and started going. I stayed a member because of the great people I’ve met, and excellent education provided.

Best business tip/idea I’ve learned so far this year: Get to the why during meetings. Everyone nowadays is time restrained and don’t really need the nitty gritty details you’ve worked hard on. Get to the end result of your efforts quicker and relay why it is important to them.

What I like best about my job: How no day is the same. My title is sales, but that is just a portion of what I do. Some of the other things I do regularly are marketing, convention services, inventory management and website maintenance. I’m also our CRM administrator, sales/marketing reporting, and whatever else comes up along the way. I’ve been blessed throughout my career to work in great environments that have allowed me to broaden my industry knowledge and experience into almost every corner of what a typical Destination Marketing Organization does.
